Dr Wong Jun Shyan
General Info

Short Introduction
Dr. Wong was both an ASEAN Scholar and Kuok Foundation scholar in his undergraduate years at the National University of Singapore. After receiving ophthalmic training from the National University of Singapore and Singapore National Eye Centre, he went on to pursue clinical fellowships in VitreoRetinal (VR) Disease at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, University of Melbourne in 1998; and at Beetham Eye Institute of Joslin Diabetes Centre, Boston the following year. As a fellow at the Department of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, he received advanced training at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre and Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Returning to Malaysia in 2000, Dr. Wong started the division of Vitreoretinal (VR) Diseases of the Department of Ophthalmology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. There, he established a formal
training structure in VR diseases, and transformed the unit into the largest VR centre in Malaysia at that time.
Dr. Wong had published more than 26 original articles in peerreviewed ophthalmic journals, and had presented some 70 papers, both as invited speaker and presenter, at international ophthalmic conferences. He was recently selected as the sole recipient from Asia-Pacific in the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Leadership Development Programme 2006-7. He is an executive member on many ad-hoc and national ophthalmic committees, and he sits on many consultative panels in the Ministry of Health Malaysia advising policies related to ophthalmology.
Dr. Wong was admitted as a member of the Retina Society in 2005, and currently is the senior partner at, and the founder of, Retina Associates, Kuala Lumpur. He was recently reappointed as a Parttime Lecturer at the Department of Ophthalmology and Department of Optometry UKM.
