Yesterday I was going through from an article that suggests the medical tourism industry isn't as growth oriented as one perceived it. May be the comment is true there may be some exaggeration in the figures of medical tourists but still Medical Tourism is a huge growth oriented Industry. America is putting much effort on its behalf to get an advanced healthcare system for its natives yet we can witness people committing crimes just to get free healthcare at jail. There is still huge number of uninsured Americans looking for affordable healthcare. Even in European healthcare is far more expensive if we compare it with Asian countries. Asian Countries that can be considered as a hub of medical tourism.
Obama’s much discussed remark “My preference would be that you do not have to travel to Mexico or India for cheap healthcare “inversely is an acceptance of the fact that the trend to travel abroad for medical purposes among Americans is increasing. It is obvious no country would want its native to go abroad for healthcare purposes especially when that country putting too much effort and spending too much revenue to get affordable care for its natives. Still the figures of medical tourists from America and Western countries to Asia are increasing every day.
Asian Medical Tourism destinations are striving equally hard to meet the challenges of Quality Healthcare and Healthcare Information Technology but the healthcare cost remains the major difference between East and West. If Medical Tourism Malaysia gives the chance to go through from operative treatment 6 times cheaper than America why would one stay home for expensive medical procedure? Last year Malaysia earned revenue of RM379 million and expecting to increase 17% in healthcare and dental tourism by 2012 and so India is expecting 20% may be the figures are not apt may be there is some exaggeration. But the parameter to gauge the growth of medical tourism industry is common sense reasoning and that is affordable healthcare abroad with competitive quality.
